Miller combines watercolor paint, watercolor pencil, and gouache to create a luminous woodland scene rooted in contemporary realism. Yellow-green foliage, blue-violet depth, and red-orange warmth give the composition a vivid but natural rhythm. Baroque-inspired backlighting draws the eye to the fawn while softened edges and layered vegetation keep the atmosphere quiet and mysterious. Inspired by the Ceryneian Hind from Heracles’ third labor, the work reframes the legendary pursuit as a still encounter with vulnerability, endurance, and wonder.

M. S. Miller is a contemporary artist whose work connects the beauty of nature with the complexity of human experience. Born in Monticello, New York, and shaped by a life lived across nine states and 23 cities, Miller draws from place, memory, and emotion. She holds a B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Albany and works across mixed media, oil pastel, acrylic, printmaking, and watercolor. Her practice is influenced by postmodernism, impressionism, Renaissance art, and ancient art, with subjects ranging from political protest and activism to landscapes and intimate studies of beauty and humanity.
