Intersections – Fine Art Photography by David Manzi

# David Manzi turns the circular ruins of Mission San José de Tumacácori into a quiet study of shadow, geometry, and abandoned architecture.

Intersections | David Manzi Architectural Photography

Intersections captures the quiet geometry of abandoned architecture inside the circular mortuary chapel at Mission San José de Tumacácori in Arizona. David Manzi uses black-and-white contrast, curved stone walls, and deep shadow to create a refined architectural photograph that feels historic, minimal, and quietly dramatic.

Exhibited in Santa Fe at Dusk Gallery as part of the Abandoned exhibition, Intersections is ideal for collectors drawn to Southwest architectural photography, mission ruins, and fine art photography with a strong sense of place.

Artwork description

Intersections is David Manzi’s refined study of architecture, absence, and time. Photographed inside the circular mortuary chapel at the ruins of Mission San José de Tumacácori in Arizona, the image turns weathered stone, curved walls, and a single dark opening into a quiet visual meditation. The composition feels both ancient and sharply modern: a sweep of shadow cuts across the chapel wall while the rounded structure holds the eye in motion.

Rendered in black and white, the photograph strips the scene to texture, geometry, and atmosphere. Every surface feels touched by history. The cracked plaster, worn masonry, and high-contrast light create a mood that is calm, stark, and deeply architectural.

Exhibited in Santa Fe at Dusk Gallery as part of the Abandoned exhibition, Intersections is ideal for collectors drawn to Southwest architectural photography, mission ruins, and fine art photography with a strong sense of place.

About the artist

David Manzi is a Tucson-based fine art photographer whose work moves between Southwestern landscapes, black-and-white photography, macro studies, and architectural abstraction. Born in New York’s Catskill region, Manzi relocated to Arizona in 1999, where the Sonoran Desert’s stark forms and textures became a defining influence in his work.

Entirely self-taught, he brings a precise eye to both expansive landscapes and intimate architectural details. His career as an electrical engineer specializing in advanced RF technologies gives his photography a rare balance of technical discipline and creative instinct. In Intersections, that precision is clear: light, shadow, masonry, and circular form become a clean, atmospheric composition.

Manzi’s photographs have been exhibited in galleries across the country, earning recognition among American fine art photographers.

How to Style Intersections in Your Space

Intersections works beautifully in interiors that favor restraint, texture, and quiet impact. Its black-and-white palette makes it easy to place, while the curved architecture and dramatic shadow give the piece a strong sculptural presence.

For a Santa Fe-style interior, pair it with adobe tones, plaster walls, handwoven textiles, dark wood, or stone surfaces. In a modern home, let it stand alone in a black, white, or natural wood frame to emphasize the photograph’s clean geometry. The larger sizes are ideal above a console, credenza, bed, or reading chair. The smaller sizes work well in a collected gallery wall with other black-and-white photography, architectural studies, or desert-inspired work.

This piece is especially strong for designers working on refined living rooms, boutique hospitality spaces, offices, and interiors that need art with history without feeling heavy. For collectors, the Dusk Gallery exhibition connection adds a strong real-world proof point.
